A new machine is a capital purchase with a lead time. A repower is a service event with a delivery date. On most jobsites that difference decides the season.
YANMAR Industrial Repower
The machine is the asset. When the engine is the part that is finished, you replace the engine — at whatever level of completeness the job actually needs, from an overhaul parts list to a complete unit ready to drop in.
Why a repower beats a replacement
Cost
You are buying the part that wore out, not the machine around it. On a machine that is otherwise sound, that is the cheaper half of the decision by a wide margin.
Downtime
Remanufactured units ship in days rather than the weeks or months a new machine takes, so the schedule you are protecting is your own shop’s and not a factory’s.
Workmanship
Remanufactured engines are rebuilt back to factory specification in our own service department. New replacement engines are factory-built. Each carries its own warranty, set out below.
Remanufactured or new replacement
Both end with a YANMAR engine back in the machine. They differ in how the engine is made, which department supplies it and the warranty that comes with it.
Remanufactured
A YANMAR reman engine comes through our service department. It is restored to like-new condition: disassembled, cleaned and inspected, then rebuilt back to factory specification.
Warranty: 1 year on the parts replaced.
New replacement
A new replacement engine comes through our engine sales department. It is a new, factory-built engine, offered at several levels of completeness.
Warranty: 1 to 2 years from the factory, depending on the level of completeness.
How complete a unit do you need?
Every level below is a YANMAR unit. The only question is how much of the engine arrives assembled and how much of the work stays in your shop.
| Level | Rotating assembly | Head & camshaft | Sump & gear case | Fuel system | Flywheel & housing | Fan, belt, accessories |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Overhaul parts listParts only — nothing arrives assembled | – | – | – | – | – | – |

| Complete EngineEvery accessory fitted, ready to drop in | ● | ● | ● | ● | ● | ● |
New replacement engines are offered at several of these levels, and the length of their factory warranty depends on which. Which level fits usually follows from what failed, so the first call is a conversation rather than a price.
What we need to quote it
Two things decide everything else: the complete engine model and the engine number, exactly as they read on the engine’s nameplate. The rest helps us check your machine against repowers we have already done.
- Complete engine model and engine number — from the engine’s nameplate, not the plate on the machine.
- Machine make, model and what it does — excavator, generator, tractor, forklift, pump.
- What failed, if you know — it usually decides which level of unit fits.

Excavators and tractors, generator sets, loaders and forklifts, combines, mowers, compaction and road equipment, pumps and compressors, carriers and utility vehicles. Send us the engine model and we will tell you what we have already done with it.
Before you order
Three things a dealer or a technical buyer will want in front of them before the order goes in.
