High Energy Rotation for Heavy Boats at 50 HP
The Suzuki DF50AV is a 941 cc four-stroke outboard rated at 50 hp across a 5300-6300 rpm full-throttle operating range, the high-thrust version of the DF50A in Suzuki’s Mid Size line. Suzuki builds it around the High Energy Rotation lower unit, the DOHC 12-valve powerhead, Lean Burn Control, the Easy Start system, a large-capacity alternator and an anti-corrosion finish.
Powerful and efficient. Suzuki built the DF50AV around a High Energy Rotation lower unit, based on the one developed for the DF140A. A larger 2.42:1 gear ratio turns a bigger 14 in propeller than the standard DF50A, delivering up to 42% more forward thrust and 136% more reverse thrust in Suzuki’s own testing. The result is more precise low-speed control and handling for pontoons and other heavy, high-resistance boats, with the same 941 cc DOHC powerhead and Lean Burn Control System as the standard DF50A behind it for fuel economy from low speed into the cruising range.
Easy to live with. Suzuki’s Easy Start System needs one turn of the key; the starter stays engaged until the engine fires. The timing chain is oil-bathed, self-adjusting and maintenance free. A 12 V 19 A alternator produces approximately 11.5 A at just 1000 rpm, enough to keep an assortment of marine electronics running in most situations. The optional Suzuki Troll Mode System adjusts engine speed in 50 rpm increments from idle up to 1200 rpm, from a rocker switch near the helm.
Built for saltwater. Suzuki’s Anti-Corrosion System applies a specially formulated finish directly to the outboard’s aluminum surface, which allows maximum bonding and helps protect the parts that are constantly exposed to saltwater. The DF50AV complies with the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) 3-Star Ultra Low Emission Rating.
